Frequently asked questions (FAQs)*

What is the RENASYS EDGE System?

It’s a negative pressure wound therapy (often called NPWT) device that’s applied toyour wound to help healing. It helps to protect it and draws out excess fluid.1,2 NPWTdevices are used on many patients in hospital and at home.

How does the RENASYS EDGE System work?

The dressing is applied to the wound and covered with a transparent film. The tubing is then connected to the device to allow it to draw fluid from the wound, which is then stored in the canister connected to the pump.

How long will it take to improve my wound?

This is different for each patient and will depend on the size, type and location of your wound, as well as other treatments you may have been prescribed. Some patients see improvements within days, but for others it might take several weeks. Your nurse or doctor will decide when to stop your therapy or replace it with a different treatment.

Is the RENASYS EDGE System painful?

You may experience a slight pulling or drawing sensation when the device is switched on, but it’s not usually painful. If you experience pain, speak to your nurse or doctor –they might need to adjust your device settings or prescribe pain relief medication.

How do I know if it’s working properly?

The green light will show you that the device is on and the pump is working properly.

How often will my dressing be changed?

This can be different for each patient, but will usually be 2-3 times per week. Your nurse or doctor will decide when dressings need to be changed and will usually change dressings for you, but speak to them if you have concerns.

Will dressing changes hurt?

Some people feel some discomfort, depending on the type and location of the wound (specifically during cleaning). If you feel discomfort, you should tell the healthcare professional changing your dressing.

Can I move around while wearing it?

This will again depend on your wound, but you can usually move around as directed by your nurse or doctor. If you need to unplug the device, it can offer up to 24 hours of battery life on a full charge.**3

What do the alarms mean?

Please check the troubleshooting guidance and on-screen instructions. If you’re unsure, please speak to your nurse or doctor.

What is the NFC feature?

The Near Field Communication (NFC) feature is a Bluetooth interface. Using a smartphone or tablet device, place it over the NFC icon on the pump to access further help and information.
